The Hebrew Psalms in English Verse
Psalm 3
Abraham Coles
O Lord! how many foes
In arms against me rise;
2 How many say of me, "No help
For him in God there lies."
3 But Thou, Lord, art my Shield,
My Glory and Good-will —
4 I called, and Thou didst answer me
Out of Thy Holy Hill.
5 I laid me down and slept,
For Thy sustaining arm
Was underneath my head; I woke
Refreshed and free from harm.
6 I will not be afraid
Though myriads me oppose:
7 Rise, save me, for Thou smitten hast
On the cheek-bone my foes,
And broken hast their teeth:
8 Salvation is from Thee —
Lord! let Thy blessing evermore
Upon Thy people be.
